Stress the silent profit killer
Did you know that over 13million working days are lost each year in the UK through stress related illness? Don’t become a statistic! Learn how to manage stress.
Email is now the biggest stressor in the workplace
Recent research by Glasgow university shows that ‘Email is the thing that now causes the most problems in our daily lives’ says Karen Renaud, one of the researchers on the project.
She recommends that people should avoid constantly checking emails – sometimes as often as 35 times an hour – ‘since this will negatively affect all other work activities’ and should instead set aside dedicated times to catch up with their emails.
One idea I have tried which has been very helpful is to limit checking my emails to twice a day, once at 12 noon and then later at 4pm.
Checking first thing was often a distraction from tasks that needed my attention.
Better Sleep?
Research shows that insomnia affects over one third of the population and many of the people who come to work with me suffer from poor sleep.
What can we do to improve our sleep?
There are several things we can do
- Make your bedroom a quiet room used for sleep (and love making) but not for watching TV or working on your laptop!
- Play quiet calm music to slow down brain activity and help you relax by focusing on something other than your thoughts.
- Use essential oils renowned for their relaxing qualities – lavender and vetivert are both excellent.
